hell in a handbasket
Last year's training went to hell in a handbasket. it's true. the winter seemed to start off strong but then by the beginning of may, i was tired all the time, unable to get out of bed and the crying spells began. blah. on 3 distinct occasions i planned to not make it to 2012. yet, here i am. and very happy to be so.

now, i've begun to train for boston. i'm focused on one key goal - consistency. it is week two and i've made it. sounds easy. but it's been a struggle. so now, all i'm looking at is the work of the day ahead: the miles i need to build back my strength. but who knows, i thought i'd turned the corner before as well...and i fell back...

i hit a milestone today - 43 miles in one week. i haven't run this much in a single week in about 16 months. i feel great. my motivation seems to be there.we'll see if i can hold on and dig in. so what if i don't? for today, i'm on top of the world with this week's achievement.that's worth a lot. tomorrow i begin on next week's effort.

when it comes to training this time, there is no such thing as too many running buddies. i need them. i'm lining them up in advance. i have my monday recovery run bud, my tuesday easy jaunt fella, my wednesday 8 mi dude, my friday 10 mi pal and my sunday long run companions ( i have two - just in case one can't make it). online, i have an abundance of friends who are cheering me on. so, yeah, i'm honoured to have everyone along. a meal is best when prepared and shared together.

yesterday, during the US womens' olympic marathon trials, shalane flanagan's mantra was "cold execution". it speaks to me. it's how i used to be before i was afflicted w this stupid self-doubt. but now, i seem to be hungry again. you know what they say, don't you? hunger is the best sauce.
