| relaxing with some cheese, pate, cherries & strawberries. ever notice how obnoxious runners are? not all of them. relax. some of them are fucking annoying. they can't shut up about running. i walk into a coffee-shop and there's a bunch of them sitting around. can't help but overhear them-they are all about their splits, their training, their gear.(and no - they didn't *just* come back from a run). blah blah blah. my friend tom says those xtranormal videos are passe or else, i'd make one for you. [you can just watch this one: http://www.xtranormal.com/watch/7985459/im-running-a-marathon] |
ever spot runners outside of a sporting event? notice how much care they've taken in their subtle runner identity ensemble...the heartrate monitor watch, the socks or 'sleeves', hell- even the shoes or vff's and yes...the boston jacket at a movie theatre, - while well deserved - it's kinda cheesy, no? #notagoodlook.
yes i run but...
i talk runner talk and sometimes i like it...but really, i'm not a card-carrying runner. i've never read a running book and i dumped my only running mag subscription. i don't see running movies and i don't have running on my resume. it's just thing i do. and in spite of my sharing with other runners, it's not something alot of people in my real life know about me.i did think this list of 35 ways to know you're a runner is funny...and relevant. http://www.runningforums.com/you_know_you_re_a_runner_if_t11897.html
not a missionary
mostly, i really love running- the freedom, the fluid motion, the state of mind that can just take me far far away. i also know that many times, running is boring as fuck. it's a slogfest. my body rebels and after a mile, i want to stop. usually i find if i can keep running, by mile 6, i'm feeling invincible...still...you gotta wonder. it's sure not for everyone. i get that.i am not a running evangelist. you don't have to drink my endorphin koolaid.
pillow talk excites me
the runners i'm drawn to have so much more going on than their running. they live LIFE on full. i love it. i can talk to my running pals endlessly about a whole range of passions - from running to relationships, travel, food, wine, scotch and sex. talk to me about anything you love - just give me an extensive menu & keep the conversation passionate, warm and inviting. that's my kind of pillow talk.
***please donate http://foundation.nmh.org/goto/sumanrunner - i'm running the Chicago marathon to raise money for women's health research at Northwestern Memorial. If you've read my blog, you know this cause is near and dear to me... any small amount can make a difference. thanks.
I do like to talk about running with runners, but I don't preach the gospel of running, and I don't broadcast my running to non-runers at work or elsewhere. I was never interested in running books until my Mom gave me some for Mother's Day, and I'm still not sure I'm interested in them ....
ReplyDeletePerfect. Give me a menu. And if you only serve one dish day in and day out, rest assured I too will get bored, move on, unfollow in a hurry... Good luck withChicago. Love your commitment to fundraising for it.
ReplyDeleteThis is a good post; it's also kind of funny to talk about others talking about running. Lots of running talk going on.
ReplyDeleteHubz and I were just commiserating about the "running is my whole life" types and their watches and splits and how if they were to trip and fall they'd probably hit the STOP button so it didn't count toward their time.
ReplyDeleteI love food, literature, kayaking, beer, gardening, art, biking, touring wineries, learning how to cook new dishes, friends! There's so much to experience in life.
In fact, I think I really connected with you on Twitter when you started talking about what you were eating and drinking that night.
